MONTGOMERY, AL - Legendary R&B singer Patti LaBelle will be the featured performer at Alabama State University's Turkey Day Classic concert.
This year's concert happens Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. in the ASU Acadome.
LaBelle was born Patricia Louise Holt in 1944. As a musician, she has released a total of 30 albums -- six as Patti LaBelle and the BlueBelles, a Doo-wop quartet of the 1960s; five as LaBelle, a funky trio of the '70s; and 19 as Patti LaBelle, a mix of R&B/soul ballads, up-beat pop and gospel music.
She has earned five Gold albums and one Platinum album.
LaBelle is known for her musical versatility. She has performed classic rhythm and blues renditions, pop standards and spiritual sonnets. After more than 40 years performing contemporary music, the Philadelphia maven has returned to her roots with her most recent album, "The Gospel According to Patti LaBelle."
"I was born gospel, so it's not like I'm coming back or trying to impress people with this new gospel project," she said. "I've always done this. I've never done a whole album. That's the only thing that's missing. I've come full circle where you can say it's a complete project."
In addition to her long-standing music career, LaBelle has Honorary Doctorate degrees from Cambridge College, Drexel University and Berklee School of Music. She sells her own brand of clothing, jewelry, perfume and make-up in conjunction with HSN. She also has written four bestsellers, including two cookbooks aimed at diabetics.
Advanced tickets for the Turkey Day Classic concert are $45 each and $50 the day of show. All tickets are general admission and can be purchased at the ASU Acadome ticket office.
