Parts supplier relocating to Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Eberspaecher North America will relocate its Michigan-based catalytic converter manufacturing operation to a Tuscaloosa site in mid-2009, creating 37 jobs.

Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority board members unanimously approved $308,543 in property and sales tax abatements Thursday for the company, which is investing $7 million in the new site.

The move from Brighton, Mich., will give Eberspaecher its second location in Interstate Industrial Park in Tuscaloosa County.

The German automotive parts supplier has operated an exhaust systems manufacturing plant in the industrial park at Cottondale since 2004.

The company is a Tier 1 supplier for Mercedes Benz U.S. International in nearby Vance.

IDA executive director Dara Longgrear said the expansion is good news considering the nation's larger economic problems.
