Opelika woman seriously injured in I-85 crash

OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - An unidentified 30-year-old Opelika woman was taken by Life Light helicopter to Columbus Regional Medical Center Monday morning after a single vehicle crash on Interstate 85.

The accident happened near the 56 mile marker just before the noon hour. That's where the victim's Ford Explorer flipped at least one time and came to rest in the median.

Captain Tom Stoffer of the Auburn Police Department tells WSFA 12 News it appears the woman suffered a serious head injury in the accident. No one else was injured.

Northbound lanes of traffic were shut down for a short time to allow for the helicopter's landing.

Those lanes have since reopened.

An investigation is underway at this time. There was no additional information available on the victim.
