MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities discovered four men from the Dominican Republic - one identified as a fugitive on a drug charge in New York - hiding in a tugboat on the Mobile River.
Alabama Port spokeswoman Judy Adams says the fugitive, 26-year-old Edward Lugo-Mejilla, and the others were found Sunday.
Adams says the tug was pulling a sea-going barge up the Mobile River.
She says the barge and tug's last stop before entering the Port of Mobile had been San Juan, Puerto Rico.
U.S. Border Patrol agent Ed Garcia says Coast Guard officials and Border Patrol agents boarded the vessel.
Garcia says Lugo-Mejilla was taken to Mobile County Metro Jail to await his return to New York on the drug charge.
The others were being detained aboard the tug, which will take them back to the Dominican Republic.
