Andalusia, AL (WSFA) -- Mike Taunton has lived in Andalusia for twenty years, and having Vector Aerospace in town is a dream come true.
"It means a lot to me having a quality job here in my home town. It's been an adventure. Learning something different everyday," says Taunton.
The 38,000 square foot helicopter maintenance and repair facility gives Taunton a job he doesn't take lightly.
"People's lives are in your hands, and ya know that means something to me."
By restoring and updating commercial, government, and defense helicopters, the facility saves companies millions while bringing millions to Andalusia.
"These jobs really do have a major impact on the local economy," says Governor Bob Riley.
It costs over a million dollars just to refurbish a helicopter. Vector estimates refurbishing about 30-35 of aircraft within the next year.
It's a year the governor believes will be beneficial for Covington county.
"You're going to see this company continue to grow until it becomes one of the major employers not only within this area but within the state."
And Taunton, who is only sixteen months into it says it's the best job he's ever had.
