BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Sweet Water has won its third straight Class 1A football championship. The Bulldogs defeated Speake 42-0 on Friday, with Johnny Lockett scoring three touchdowns.
Lockett had touchdown runs of 45 and 17 yards, and he caught a 36-yard scoring pass from Damaraquis Williams. Speake was overmatched from the start. Sweet Water held the Bobcats to negative-16 yards of offense in the decisive second quarter. Sweet Water, from Marengo County in west Alabama, finishes 14-1.
Speake is from Lawrence County in the Tennessee Valley and ends the year 12-3.
