Troy University donates Christmas stockings

Staff and faculty at Troy University are spreading holiday cheer this season by collecting Christmas stockings for the Montgomery Salvation Army.

The stockings are stuffed with Christmas gifts purchased by faculty and staff members. More than 150 stockings have been collected so far and the first batch was picked up by the Salvation Army on Monday, Dec. 8. Staff and faculty will continue to turn in stockings through Friday, when the final donation will be made.

The stockings full of gifts will be distrubuted by the Salvation Army to needy children, senior citizens and the homeless, said Ray White, vice chancellor of the Montgomery campus.

"The idea is to make someone's holiday a little bit more joyful at a time when it may be otherwise for them," White said.

This Christmas season marks the first time in recent years that the Montgomery campus has supported the stocking drive, White said. He said staff and faculty members have been enthusiastic about the project.

"I knew we had some great staff and faculty members here, but this response has exceeded my expectations,"
