MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A white powder found on a mail bag at the main state government mail center in Montgomery turned out to be a cleaning solution.
A spokeswoman for the state Department of Public Safety, Martha Earnhardt, said Thursday investigators are certain the white powder was an accident. Workers found the powder Wednesday morning and state officials immediately took safety precautions. It came two days after a letter arrived at the state Capitol with white powder inside.
That powder also turned out to be harmless. The letter Monday was addressed to Gov. Bob Riley. He is one of at least 17 governors who have received similar letters.
