Sheriff will step down to end investigation

ONEONTA, Ala. (AP) - Blount County Sheriff Danny Morton has agreed to step down next month in return for the state ending its investigation into sexual misconduct with a female deputy.

Tom Sorrells, a special prosecutor for the Attorney General's Office, announced Monday that no charges will be referred to a grand jury.

A deputy filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in April.

The deputy accuses Morton of forcing her to drink alcohol with him and another deputy, Jon Faust, while on duty in March.

He then allegedly fondled and kissed the woman against her will. The complaint alleged Morton, who was driving a county pickup truck, took the woman and Faust to Faust's home where he performed oral sex on the deputy against her will.
