MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Monique Holland is moving up the ranks at Alabama State University after being named Athletics Director.

Holland was previously the associate director of athletics before the move, leading the University's NCAA rules education and compliance program.

She will step into her new role managing ASU's 18 intercollegiate sports effective January 1st.

"Monique Holland is the right person at the right time to lead ASU's athletic department forward into the 21st century," ASU President William H. Harris said.

"Holland's addition as the director of our athletic program offers ASU a great deal of experience,  both from the NCAA  member institution level and at the NCAA office level, which will aid us in addressing the myriad of programs that fall under our athletic department," he added.

The new AD hasn't been working at ASU very long, but that doesn't mean she isn't familiar with campus. She received her Bachelor of Science from ASU and went on to get a master's degree at Georgia State.

She worked at GSU for nearly three years as an associate athletic director. She has also worked at Clayton State University and Georgia Tech.
