Update: Charge against APD officer upgraded

Auburn, Ala. (WSFA) -- The motorist accused of dragging and injuring an Auburn Police officer now faces an upgraded charge of attempted murder.  Initially officers charged 59 year old John Henry Knight, of Auburn, with first-degree assault. That was on Wednesday night.

Police say Knight dragged officer Joshua Adams after a traffic stop. When the officer attempted to question Knight he sped off, dragging the officer for at least a full block.

Adams was treated for a head injury and released the same night.  He is recovering at home.

Knight remains in the Lee County detention facility on a $50,000 bond.
