Last minute shoppers hit stores looking for big deals

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- With Christmas just five days away, last minute shoppers hit the stores Saturday trying to cross off their Christmas shopping lists.

At Eastdale Mall in Montgomery , many people went to grab good deals on Christmas gifts. It could be make-or-break the next few days, as a number of struggling retailers scramble to make one last push to get shoppers to spend money.

"There are so many different things to choose from this year," said Eastdale Mall Marketing Director Melissa George, "some of the most popular items are electronic items like MP3 players and GPS systems, and you can never go wrong jewelry and hand bags for the ladies."

Stores are also offering door-buster specials, buy-one-get-one-free bargains, and perks like free gift-wrapping.

Folks also packed the Shoppes at East Chase trying to finish their Christmas lists. Several stores posting huge signs in their windows advertising sales.

Just north of Montgomery, shoppers made a last ditch effort for family and friends in Prattville.  Several folks looking for big bargains at the newly opened High Point Town Center.

Retail experts say most people haven't finished their Christmas shopping yet, and that's why stores are offering such deals.
