Editorial: Happy New Year

It will be a happy new year if crime continues to decrease in our region and we encourage neighborhood and church groups to keep taking back our neighborhoods.

It will be a happy new year if the new Montgomery Mayor continues to drive economic development and downtown development, bridge the east-west community gap, develop new revenue streams to offset dwindling retail revenue and help keep our neighborhoods safe.

It will be a happy new year if our state legislators rollback their pay raise, spend limited funds wisely, cut the food tax, deal with the Medicaid shortfall, and put aside personal animosity with colleagues.

We'll all benefit from continued strides in education improvement, emerging young leadership making an impact, and a sooner than expected end to the recession.

Best wishes to all on a healthy and happy year ahead!
