ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - A Limestone County prisoner bit off the tip of an 18-year-old inmate's right ear during a fight.
Sheriff Mike Blakely said preliminary reports indicate that 30-year-old Farroll Barber and Julius A. Allen, both of Athens, were fighting when Barber bit the 18-year-old's ear Saturday.
Barber was jailed about a week ago on a theft charge.
Allen was jailed at about the same time on sodomy, resisting arrest and drug charges.
Blakely said doctors at Athens-Limestone Hospital could not reattach the ear.
The altercation allegedly began when Barber poured water on a bench in the commons area of his cell block to keep others from sitting with him.
According to Blakely, Allen said something to him about it and they began to fight.
