Byrne: Reid State pres should head Ala. Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Two-year chancellor Bradley Byrne wants the president of Reid State Technical College to transfer to the head job at Alabama Southern Community College.

Byrne said Thursday that he plans to ask the state school board to name Douglas Littles to the post instead of nominating him for an interim role. System policy allows the transfer of presidents from one college to another without a full search.

Littles would take over Alabama Southern on July 1 if the board approves the transfer. Evergreen's Reid State is one of the college system's smallest schools, with about 600 students.

Alabama Southern is based in Monroeville and enrolls about 1,300 students. Current Alabama Southern President John Johnson is retiring in June.
