Congressman Bright named to the Agriculture Committee

WASHINGTON, DC (WSFA) -- Congressman Bobby Bright was named to the House Agriculture Committee on Tuesday night. It is Congressman Bright's second committee assignment. He was named to the House Armed Services Committee last week. His predecessor, Congressman Terry Everett, served on both committees and Congressman Bright specifically requested to be named to both committees.

"It will be a great honor to serve on the Agriculture Committee," Congressman Bright said.  "Agriculture is one of the most important industries in Alabama and in the Second District specifically. It will be my goal on the committee to fight for Alabama farms and farmers and ensure that agriculture stays strong and thrives in southeast Alabama."

The Agriculture Committee has jurisdiction over, among other areas, specialty crops, commodity exchanges, water and soil conservation, extension of farm credit and farm security, forestry, nutrition, rural electrification and development, and agriculture generally. In the 110th Congress, the Agriculture Committee debated and passed H.R. 6124, the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008, better known as the Farm Bill.

"I would like to thank House leadership for this committee assignment and for realizing the importance of agriculture in the Second District," Bright said.
