MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - State budget hearings were put on hold Wednesday so lawmakers could attend the funeral of a popular state senator.

Funeral services for seven-term senator "Pat" Lindsey (D -Choctow County) were held Wednesday afternoon at First United Methodist Church in Butler.

Lindsey died Sunday morning of an apparent heart attack while on a hunting trip in west Alabama.

The senator was born in Meridian, Mississippi and received a B.S. in Geology at the University of Alabama. He also graduated from the University of Alabama's School of Law.

He held the Chairperson position on the Constitution, Campaign Finance, Ethics & Elections committee at the time of his death as well as numerous other positions.

W.H. "Pat" Lindsey was 72-years-old.

Governor Bob Riley will issue a proclamation some time in the near future to hold a special election to determine who will take Lindsey's seat in the next session.
