Member of Montgomery Police Department Joins Race for Mayor

Montgomery, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery police Sergeant J.E. King kicked off his campaign for mayor on Monday.

King says he is taking a leave of absence from the force beginning on Monday to make his run for office. King says he wants to work on crime, taxes, education, the economy in the capital city, with his main focus on helping Montgomery neighborhoods.

King says, "To show my commitment for improving out neighborhood I'm going to take 500 dollars a month out of the mayoral salary and put it into a neighborhood improvement plan. "

King says he will meet every three months with all neighborhood associations in the city and let them vote on an improvement project for one neighborhood.
