Editorial: The Auburn Knights – 7/22/10 In 1930 a  group of student musicians at  the Alabama Polytechnic  Institute, now known as Auburn University, formed a swing band… not such an unusual event at the time.  What is unusual  is that The Auburn Knights Orchestra is still playing music… 80 years later. Unless you're a fan, you may not know that the likes of Ziggy Elman, Buddy Rich and even Frank Sinatra have performed with the Knigh...More >>

Editorial – Media access to gulf oil spill – 7-20-2010 Last week BP finally capped the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but only after somewhere between 93 and 184 million gallons of crude oil polluted our coastline, depending on whose estimate you believe.  BP has grossly underestimated the flow of oil since day one of this disaster.  Three weeks ago, the federal government's oil response director, Thad Allen, put severe restrictions on media cove...More >>

Our neighborhoods are being taken back.

A five year trend of crime reduction in major crime in Montgomery:  homicides, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larceny, auto theft and felony sex cases continued last year with a dramatic drop.

There were more than two thousand less numbers of cases of crime in these categories last year from the year before and homicides were at a five year low.

Credit the leadership of Montgomery's police chief Art Baylor and the patrolmen on the streets.

Dividing the city into three precincts has worked well to connect policemen with people in the neighborhoods they patrol.

Credit goes to you as well.  When it comes to reducing crime, we all play a huge role.

Our neighbors watching out for each other is a great deterrent and defense.

Let's continue to take back our neighborhoods.
