Convicted molester's freedom brief in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A 23-year-old convicted child molester described as mentally challenged was mistakenly released from Mobile County Metro Jail four days after a judge ordered him to serve five years.

James Andrew Lollar, confused over his sudden freedom, contacted his lawyer and was returned to custody without incident.

Lollar had pleaded guilty on Jan. 12 to one count of sodomy and prosecutors dropped several other charges involving girls under the age of 12.

A jail official misread the court's order and released Lollar on Jan. 15.

Jail warden Mike Haley said Wednesday that it was his office that discovered the error and gave Lollar the chance to surrender.
