MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) -- The Montgomery Police Department confirmed Sunday evening that Officer Josh Broadway, 21, died as a result of injuries sustained during a massive car wreck on January 15th.

Officer Broadway had good days and bad days, according to family members, as he struggled to recover from massive head trauma, including an injured brain stem.

Police say the injuries were too severe and doctors declared the young officer brain dead Sunday afternoon. Authorities tell WSFA 12 News the young officer is still on life support as his family considers the possiblity of organ donation.

WSFA 12 News spoke with Montgomery Police Chief Art Baylor Sunday night, who says Broadway's death casts a solemn shadow over the department.

"I spoke with his [family members] and they said Josh passed away doing what he really enjoyed doing--policing--and he would want the rest of the officers out there doing their jobs, protecting the citizens of Montgomery," Baylor explained.
