Memphis Motorsports Park sold to Alabama company

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis Motorsports Park has been sold to an Alabama company for $10 million.

Dover Motorsports Inc. made the sale Friday to Gulf Coast Entertainment for cash.

The complex houses a .75-mile oval, drag strip and road course.

According to The Commercial Appeal, the buyer is the owner of a proposed multi-use entertainment complex in Mobile, Ala. which is projected to be operational in 2011.

Among the investors in the proposed Alabama Motorsports Park is NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The Memphis track hosts events in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

Dover will continue to manage day-to-day operations of the track.
