The 2007 Agriculture Census is out. The number of Aabama farms and farmers is growing and becoming more diverse. The census also showed family farms in Alabama increased by 8 percent since 2002. We are now at 48,753 farms up from 45,126. And more woman, African American and younger farmers are getting involved. AG Commissioner Ron Sparks says getting farmers involved in the census is vital to getting more federal funds, and that is happening.
