TUSKEGEE ANNOUNCES 2009 RECRUITING CLASS

TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY, AL-(Feb. 4, 2009)- The Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University have announced 22 new members to the 2009 recruiting class, adding depth and versatility to America's Winningest HBCU Football Team.

Of the newest players, sixteen are on the defensive side (4 defensive backs, 9 defensive linemen, 3 linebackers).  The Golden Tigers finished second in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference during the 2008 season in scoring defense.

"We wanted to get some more defensive linemen and we needed to get better at the linebacker position, so we tried to beef up these areas," Head Coach Willie Slater said.

The list of signees is headed by Perry Couch  (6-4, 240 defensive end), Jeremy Edwards (6-3, 215, DE/LB) and Isaiah Whittaker (6-3, 250 defensive lineman).  Xavier Bacon (5-10, 180, RB), who gained 1,677 yards and scored 23 touchdowns in 2008, is the lone runningback.

The Golden Tigers, who finished 10-1 during the regular-season in 2008, won their third consecutive SIAC title.  Only a missed call in the final game of the season kept Tuskegee from having back-to-back perfect seasons.
