MONTGOMERY, AL., -- Montgomery entrepreneur Ken Register will hold a news conference on Friday, February 13, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. to announce his plans to open an Italian restaurant in historic downtown Montgomery. Sa Za Serious Italian Food of Naples, Florida will open its second location at 138 Commerce Street, across the street from the Renaissance Hotel, which will be the site of the news conference next Friday.
Sa Za Serious Italian Food began its operations in Naples, Florida under the ownership of Joe DiMaggio, Jr., cousin of the late baseball great with the same name. DiMaggio, Jr. features recipes used by his grandmother who was known for her authentic Italian treats, and many of those items will be on the menu in the Montgomery location. Mr. DiMaggio Jr. will be a partner with Mr. Register.
"I am making this investment because I believe in the future of downtown, and all the people associated with this project are as excited as I am," said Register. "The cooperation from the city, county and Chamber of Commerce has made this dream a reality," he added. "On top of that, we will offer some great food with real historic ambience."
Joining Mr. Register at the news conference will be Montgomery architect John Chambless, AIA, of Brown Chambless Architects who is providing architecture, interior design and engineering services, Jerome Moore, a local real estate agent who helped put the project together and Greg Allen who, along with Jere Beasley, own the building and are involved in the development of the alley. All three men will make brief remarks covering the history of the building, the layout of the restaurant and other pertinent facts about the project.
"We are very happy to assist in bringing fine Italian dining to downtown Montgomery. We continue to be committed to this project and look forward to additional new tenants in the downtown area," said Mr. Allen.
