Andrew Young closes leadership conference in Troy

TROY, Ala. (AP) - Former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young told about 700 participants in a leadership conference that the Obama Administration faces a litany of global challenges.

He cited the emergence of China as a world power, the situation in the Middle East and nations in Africa and Latin America that are too poor to take advantage of the global economy.

The conference at Troy University was in celebration of Black History Month. The conference ended on Saturday.

Young marched alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and later served as a U.S. Congressman and mayor of Atlanta. Young will join U.S. Rep. John Lewis, an Atlanta Democrat and a native of Troy, Feb. 15 on a trip to India to commemorate King's visit to that country 50 years ago to meet with Mahatma Gandhi.
