Ritz Theatre marquee dedication

A special night for the historic Ritz Theatre in Greenville Monday as the city dedicated the refurbished marquee.  The marquee lights were turned on signifying the finishing touches for the renovation and restoration of the Ritz Theatre.  Grants from the Alabama Council on the Arts and the Daniel Foundation funded most of the work.  Following the marquee presentation, the audience enjoyed an off Broadway production of "Bye, Bye Birdie."

"I think more than anything else it lights up our town, if is the cornerstone of our community and in some ways lets people know what we have downtown.  A lot of people only see the interstate, but we have a beautiful downtown and a wonderful Ritz Theatre and we are going to do more and more things in the Ritz in the coming years," says Mayor Dexter McClendon.

Senator Wendell Mitchell also presented the Ritz Theatre with a $25,000 check for a sound system.
