Legal Historian Testifies in 10 Commandments Trial

A legal historian testified Tuesday morning that the Ten Commandments are just one of many sources of the moral foundation of American law. A professor of law at the University of Tulsa, Paul Finkelman, said other sources include the Declaration of Independence and speeches of numerous Americans including Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Junior.

Finkelman said the great source of the moral foundation of law appears to be the struggle for individual freedom. He cited Lincoln's Gettysburg address in which he says the great struggle is over the idea that all men are created equal.

Under cross-examination from Chief Justice Roy Moore's attorney, Herbert Titus, Finkelman admitted he is not a Biblical scholar.
