Board votes to close three Montgomery schools

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery County Board of Education has voted to close three public schools in an effort to save $3 million.

Paterson Elementary School, Hayneville Road Elementary School and Pintlala Elementary School will each close down by the end of Summer.

Each of the seven board members voted to close Paterson, and the vote was 6-1 in favor of shutting down Hayneville Road. Only Mary Briers (District 4) voted against the measure.

Pintala Elementary took more time to decide, and when it was over more than 250 people in the audience watched as the board voted to shutter the third school.

The board voted 4-3 in favor of Pintlala's closure. Heather Sellers (District 1), Charlotte Meadows (District 2) and Melissa Snowden (District 5 and Board VP) each voted against closure. Eleanor Dawkins (District 3), Mary Briers (District 4), Roger Porterfield (District 6) and Berverly Ross (District 7 and Board President) each voted to close the school.

Pintlala Elementary and Hayneville Road Elementary fall within Mary Briers' district, while Eleanor Dawkins is over Paterson Elementary.
