New AU trustee selected

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Auburn University trustee selection committee has selected Raymond J. Harbert of Birmingham to serve a seven-year term on the school's board of trustees.

It's the second time Harbert has been chosen for the position that is being vacated by trustee Earlon McWhorter of Anniston.

The committee selected Harbert last year to fill McWhorter's seat, but the nomination was never confirmed by the Alabama Senate.

By law, the committee had to submit another appointment or resubmit Harbert's name since the Senate adjourned last year without confirming him.

The 54-year-old Harbert is the chairman and chief executive officer of the investment management company Harbert Management Corp.
