OHATCHEE, Ala. (AP) - It was not a routine day for the owner of a recycling center in east Alabama.
Randy Ferguson opened a crate, marked empty, and found it contained a non-explosive 15-foot missile. He declined to comment.
The missile was found Thursday at Taylor Road Recycling Center.
Army ordnance disposal teams from the Anniston Army Depot and Fort Benning, Ga., examined the munition and determined it was harmless.
A spokesman for the Depot said the missile did not come from the Anniston installation.
The Depot handles missile recycling projects for the U.S. military.
Its unclear how the missile wound up at the recycling facility.
Ohatchee is about 50 miles east of Birmingham.
