Montgomery Public School Board makes big changes

MONTGOMERY, AL., -- There were big happenings Tuesday night at the Montgomery Public School board meeting.

The board on a vote of 5 to 2 voted to invoke a reduction in force. What that means is the superintendent will decide who will be laid off. It will mainly be at the central office.

WSFA 12 News is told there could be layoffs, or in some cases, if qualified those personnel could be moved to schools.

The board also voted not to renew non-tenure teachers. Those 650 teachers will receive notices this week. A spokesman says they hope to hire back as many as possible.
