SALEM, Ala. (AP) - The Lee County board of education has backed a resolution that would expedite emergency repairs to Wacoochee Junior High School.
The school, located in Salem, was heavily damaged by an EF-1 tornado Saturday morning.
School officials said the twister heavily damaged the school's roof, several classrooms and the cafeteria.
The resolution, approved Tuesday, allows administrators to immediately begin soliciting bids for repair work.
The bids could be reviewed by the school board as early as next week.
Approximately 900 Wacoochee students are attending classes temporarily at Smiths Station High School.
