MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Authorities on the scene of a Montgomery School bus vs. tanker truck collision say there were five students onboard the school bus, not seven as was earlier believed.
School spokesman Tom Salter tells WSFA 12 News each of the students is "fine" but the bus driver was transported to the hospital with what are being called minor injuries.
Investigators say the flathead McInnis School bus slammed into the back of the tanker truck around 3pm at the intersection of Carmichael Road and the Boulevard. The tanker was carrying oil and water at the time.
Authorities say it appears a car in front of the tanker made a sudden stop and the bus was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the tanker.
The passenger-side portion of the bus' windshield was broken and there was damage to the front end of the bus. The scene has since been cleared.
