MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - One of the six men who wants to be the next mayor of Montgomery has a long career in law enforcement, and he's making it his campaign cornerstone.

Jay King says his 15 years on the force make him the right person for the job.

With just days left before the voters make a final decision King is going door to door with a message of a safer, better looking Montgomery. Talking with a resident on her door step, King points to his campaign leaflet and adds, "You can call me anytime."

Of all the candidates, King says he's the one who knows more about keeping your family safe.

"Instead of having to rely on somebody else on ideas for improving public safety," he explained, "I have that firsthand knowledge."

Other changes King would like to see include more things for youngsters to do.

Also of concern to the candidate, the abandoned and dilapidated buildings sprinkled around town. He's telling voters he will put those property owners on notice immediately.

"Look, your clock starts now," he said. Demolision or improvement has to happen in six months.

Those are just a few steps King says he'll take to make the capital city an even better city in which to work and live.
