Lawyers for Siegelman appealing decision, again

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman's lawyers say they're disappointed but already looking forward to future appeals.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld five of the former governor's seven convictions. Two mail fraud charges were thrown out.

Defense attorney Susan James says the next appeal is to the entire 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.  "We certainly don't want Governor Siegelman to have to spend another day in jail. We think the days he spent in jail were unnecessary, and so we're going to do everything that we can to try to avoid his having to go back to custody," James said.

James also said if that did not work, she'll take the case to the Supreme court.
