Selma students win C-SPAN competition

SELMA, AL (WSFA)-  A big congratulations is in order for several Selma area students.

Allison Moore, Michelle Harris and Whitney Strong are eighth graders at Selma Middle CHAT Academy  wholearned Tuesday they were 2nd Place winners of the C-SPAN 2009 StudentCam Competition.

The competition's 2009 theme was "A Message to the new President. What is the most urgent issue to address after taking office, and why?"

Moore, Harris and Strong submitted Today's Special: No Money, Low Self Esteem, with a Side of Poor Education, a message about poverty and its effect on students.

In all, the girls beat out all but one of the 921 videos submitted for this year's competition.

Now, they'll share a $1,500 cash prize. Their broadcasting teacher, Claire Compton, will receive $125 for digital video equipment for the classroom!

Be on the look out for these talented students' documentary. It will air at 5:50 a.m. (CDT) on C-SPAN on Friday, April 24.
