Board reverses vote, two schools will stay open

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - It's a victory, of sorts, for some local residents who are fighting to keep two Montgomery school's open.

The Montgomery Board of Education voted Tuesday evening to rescind it's earlier vote to close Pintlala and Hayneville Road elementary schools.

The board voted 6-1 to keep Hayneville Road school open, with the one vote in opposition to the move coming from Board President Beverly Ross.

Keeping the schools open will come at a price, however.

Education leaders must come up with more than $1.4 million by May 1, 2009 to keep the doors open.

Of that figure $860,000 would go towards Hayneville Road and $550,000 would go towards Pintlala Elementary.
