Fire destroys home of White Hall's mayor

WHITE HALL, AL (WSFA) - The home of White Hall mayor John Jackson has been destroyed in a Wednesday evening fire.

Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency Director Walter King confirming the blaze to WSFA 12 News.

Someone called the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department at 8:03PM to report the fire.

King said five fire departments responded to the blaze on Freedom Road and described the home as "a total loss."

King said Mayor Jackson was not home at the time of the blaze, and neither he nor his family suffered any injuries.

It's too early to tell exactly what sparked the house fire, though King said one firefighter on the scene said it appeared to be electrical in nature.

The fire marshall will conduct a full investigation before a final determination is made.
