Auburn Univ. beefs up security

Auburn, Ala. (WTVM) -- Auburn University is opening up a new public safety building to beef up and organize campus security. In six weeks, the old Auburn University Credit Union building will be transformed into the public safety and security headquarters.

Safety officers will monitor live video from several cameras all over campus.  Auburn police will also run a satellite office from there and EMA will be housed there to prepare and respond to disasters.

University emergency management official Chance Corbett said, "our goal is to make everyone as safe as possible and have the university prepared for anything."

Auburn city police are responsible for safety and criminal investigations on campus.

University officials say the new nerve center will help police efforts.
