Gov. Riley touts trade initiative

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) - Governor Bob Riley says his Export Alabama Initiative is working even in this rough economy.

The trade promotion effort is designed to expand access for Alabama goods in foreign markets.

Since its launch in 2004, 17 trade missions to 19 countries have taken place, 40 trade agreements were reached resulting in $64 million in expected sales from Alabama companies, and almost a thousand jobs in the state.

The governor also honored the Mobile Chamber of Commerce and 7 Alabama companies for their success in exporting.
