Police officers from across U.S. coming to Birmingham to honor Sgt. Wytasha Carter

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Officers with the non-profit organization Brotherhood For the Fallen will be in Birmingham this Saturday for Birmingham Police Sgt. Wytasha Carter’s funeral.

The group started almost 10 years ago, and since then, officers from all parts of the U.S. have gone to hundreds of funerals for officers killed in the line of duty.

Brotherhood For the Fallen’s goal is to provide support for the family and to honor for the fallen officer.

There are seven different chapters across the country and at least two officers from each chapter plan to be at Sgt. Carter’s funeral.

Founder and Chicago police officer Rick Caballero said he’s seen the number of funerals increase by the year.

“Always a sad situation. I’ll get a text message at 2 o’clock in the morning and I know it’s not a good one,” he said. “It’s continuous. If you let it beat you up, it’s going to beat you up. You have to move forward and be positive and say, ‘What can we do?’”

The members participate in the funeral services and donate funds to the officer’s family.
