AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Auburn and Kentucky take center stage in the world of college basketball on Saturday. A heavyweight SEC bout going down inside Auburn Arena with the 14th ranked Tigers hosting No. 12 Kentucky.
“It will be a physical challenge for us, there’s no question,” said Auburn basketball head coach Bruce Pearl. “We’ve got a long way to go. I’m really proud of the position that this team has put themselves in but for me I don’t see the hype. I see 33-3 with an opportunity to be 33-4. At the same time I think we’re good enough to beat anybody on our schedule.”
Auburn has put themselves in a position to do something historic, which motivates a lot of the players. The Tigers have a chance to get their third straight win at Auburn Arena over Kentucky for just the second time in program history.
“We don’t look at this as we need to win because it’s Kentucky, we look at this as we need this win because we want to win the conference again.” said point guard Jared Harper.
Kentucky is young, talented and Coach Pearl compared their physicality to Tennessee’s.
“Every one of their players on the floor plays physically. They rebound about 40 percent of their missed shots so keeping them off the boards on the second shot will be very important,” he said.
Both teams are 33-3 and have a chance to continue to separate themselves towards the top of the leader board in the SEC with a win on Saturday night. Tip is at 3 p.m. on the Plains. You can watch the game on ESPN.
