MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Board of Directors of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the election of Chamber Executive Vice President Anna B. Buckalew as the chamber’s next president and CEO.
Current President Randall L. George will retire effective April 1.
Buckalew joined the chamber over 30 years ago. She was named executive vice president in 2014 taking on a range of roles from small and minority business development to military and governmental affairs, according to chamber spokesperson Meg Lewis.
“I am honored to be named the next president and CEO of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, and I want to thank Randy and the board for the confidence they have placed in me to lead this trusted organization,” Buckalew said.
Board Chairman Willie Durham said the chamber has been blessed to have George as its president the last 30 years and head of economic development for 16 years before that.
“After 46 years of leadership, Randy is known throughout the country in chamber and economic development circles as one of the best in the industry. He has led the Chamber through some of the most transformative years in our region’s history,” Durham said.
Planning for George’s succession began last year through a transition committee. David Reed, Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Board of Goodwyn Mills & Cawood and a former past chairman of the Chamber, said the committee’s decision was unanimous due to Buckalew’s “extensive experience and knowledge of the chamber and the Montgomery area community.”
Buckalew is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management at the University of Georgia, with an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Chambers of Commerce Association of Alabama and the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Foundation.
She will take over April 2.
