BUTLER COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - A run-of-the-mill trip down Interstate 65 over the weekend quickly turned into a serious situation for an SUV driver, and the ordeal was captured on video.
18-wheeler driver Blayne Pruett was traveling along I-65 through Butler County Sunday morning when he - and his dashcam - witnessed the ordeal.
Pruett was traveling in the right lane. As his dashcam video recorded, a dark colored SUV passed him in the left lane. Just as the SUV overtakes Pruett’s truck, a square, white object seemingly appears out of nowhere.
The SUV’s driver ran over the object. In attempting to avoid it, however, they lost control of the vehicle, over-corrected and veered in front of the truck.
“Did everything I could do to not hit them and thank God I didn’t,” Pruett said.
The SUV then slammed into the guardrail, partially bounced back into the road, then rolled backward into on the railing causing it to rollover as Pruett passed by.
The trucker immediately pulled to the edge of the road to help.
While Alabama State Troopers have not confirmed any details of the wreck, Pruett said after pulling everyone out of the vehicle, they were fine and didn’t have any injuries.
The object in the road appeared to be a folding table that fell off the back of another vehicle just ahead of the SUV.
