Montgomery Academy sweeps Class 4A/5A State Tennis Championships
Montgomery Academy swept the Alabama High School Athletic Association State Boys’ and Girls’ State Tennis Championships.

MOBILE, AL (WSFA) - Montgomery Academy swept the Alabama High School Athletic Association State Boys’ and Girls’ State Tennis Championships.

The championship was No. 18 for the boys as coach David Bethea’s squad scored 66 points to beat runner-up Randolph by 14. Montgomery Academy claimed two singles titles with junior Alec Chandler winning at No. 4 and eighth-grader Whit Davis at No. 5. LAMP finished fourth with 37.

Chandler and William Chapman won the No. 3 doubles title for the Eagles.

For the girls, it was title No. 17. Coached by Amy Williams, the Lady Eagles gave Montgomery Academy the sweep posting 73 points to win by 20 over runner-up Jasper. Junior Martha Ernest captured the No. 4 singles title for Montgomery Academy and sophomore McRae Freeman won at No. 6 singles.

The tourneys, along with the Class 6A Boys’ and Girls’ State Championships, were held at Mobile Tennis Center.
