Passenger rail study may bring the return of the ‘Gulf Breeze’ corridor

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The State of Alabama is considering reopening the former “Gulf Breeze” corridor passenger rail service after announcing the preparation of a feasibility study.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and its Economic Development Division are conducting the study concerning the return of the passenger rail service that runs through Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile. A public meeting will be held at the Montgomery City Hall Auditorium, 103 North Perry Street, on May 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ADECA plans to have more meetings at a number of locations for public review.

The public is invited to attend the meetings to review project information, make comments and give input on the study. Visitors will also be allowed to submit written statements.

According to ADECA, a court reporter will be in attendance to keep record of all statements made at the meetings.
