NASHVILLE, TN (WSFA) - After having three players taken in Thursday’s first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Alabama Crimson Tide saw two more of its former players selected on Day 2.
Irv Smith Jr. and Damien Harris will begin their NFL journey after both were taken on the draft’s second day.
Smith was selected in the 2nd round at pick 50 to the Minnesota Vikings. Harris was taken by the 2019 NFL Champion New England Patriots at the 87th overall pick.
Smith was one of the more productive tight ends this past season, catching 44 passes for 710 yards and seven touchdowns in a highly explosive Crimson Tide offense. His seven TD receptions set a single-season program record for tight ends. He played in 38 games in his career, starting 14 of them.
Harris was an all caps WORKHORSE and unquestioned leader for the Tide. A four-year player, Harris finished in the top 10 in rushing yards with 3,070 career rushing yards. This past season he rushed for 876 yards and nine TDs.
Quinnen Williams, Jonah Williams and Josh Jacobs were taken in the first round of this year’s draft.
