AUTAUGA COUNTY, AL (WSFA/AP) - A man who was fleeing from police on a motorcycle Sunday evening died after a 2-vehicle crash, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Justin Dewayne Sims, 29, of Sylacauga, was riding a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle when he crashed about 10 miles north of Prattville, troopers said.

Sims had refused to stop for Autauga County Sheriff’s deputies when, around 6:30 p.m., he collided with a 2013 Ford Edge on Autauga County Road 65 near Autauga County Road 20.

According to the Associated Press, Sheriff Joe Sedinger said one of his deputies pulled over the biker after receiving a call about a group of speeding motorcyclists. The sheriff said Sims, who was armed with a pistol, got back onto his bike and fled before dying in a head-on collision.

Sims died on the scene.

Troopers are investigating the crash.
