MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The YMCA of Greater Montgomery held its 60th Jimmy Hitchcock Awards banquet Tuesday night at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church.
The Jimmy Hitchcock Award is a program of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. The Jimmy Hitchcock Committee honors young athletes for Christian leadership. Students are nominated by their coaches and administrators for setting a Christian example of moral fitness in their athletic development.
This year, 39 high school seniors were nominated. Daniel Levon “Trey” Lindsey III of Montgomery Academy and Isabelle Cochran of Montgomery Catholic were the 2019 recipients of the award.
Lindsey was a member of the Eagles’ football and basketball teams, while also playing baseball. He took several AP and honors classes, maintaining a 3.9 GPA. He will be attending Auburn University in the fall and will try out as a football walk-on.
Cochran is a state champion track and field runner. She, too, will be attending Auburn in the fall and has over $350,000 in scholarship offers. She maintains a 4.34 GPA. At Auburn, she will study mechanical engineering.
Former University of Alabama running back Glen Coffee served as the featured speaker.
